Job Description
Wrexham County Borough Council is seeking a Children’s Assistant Team Manager – Enhanced Social Worker to join the Single Point of Access (SPOA) Team within Children’s Social Care. This temporary role will provide essential leadership and safeguarding oversight during a recruitment vacancy.
The SPOA team acts as the first point of contact for information, advice, and assistance to support children and families, while investigating safeguarding concerns. As a multi-agency team, SPOA brings together professionals from different agencies to facilitate early information sharing and interventions to safeguard children.
Key Responsibilities:
Read and assess referrals received by the local authority, making timely and informed decisions on required actions.
Supervise, mentor, and guide social workers, providing management oversight and formal supervision.
Review assessments regularly, ensuring quality and compliance with safeguarding standards.
Arrange and attend Strategy Meetings and liaise with partner agencies to coordinate safeguarding interventions.
Provide safeguarding advice and support to social workers, families, and partner organisations.
Ensure effective decision-making in a fast-paced environment, handling over 1,500 contacts per month.
Contribute to multi-agency collaboration, promoting early information sharing and safeguarding best practice.
Requirements:
Qualified Social Worker with significant experience in children’s social work and safeguarding.
Strong knowledge of thresholds for Care and Support and Child Protection.
Familiarity with prevention services in the Wrexham area.
Ability to supervise and mentor social workers under pressure.
Excellent decision-making skills, with the ability to act quickly and efficiently.
Honest, reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Working Arrangements:
3 days per week office-based at 31 Chester Street, Wrexham, LL13 8BG.
2 days per week working from home, on a rota basis.
