The University of Dundee's Main Library is a busy central hub of academic learning, where students and staff also access books and resources, IT suites, a CreateSpace and Café. It is valued as a safe, inclusive, and supportive study space for students, open from 8am - 2am daily throughout the year, and our library resources and spaces were rated top in Scottish Universities by students in 2024 National Student Survey. The Main Library receives over 800,000 visits annually.

We are recruiting several exceptional individuals to join us as Library Attendants. This team is the primary point of help and support for all visitors to the Main Library on the City Campus.


The post holder will provide a visible, welcoming and approachable presence throughout all areas of the Main Library. They will answer and triage enquiries by providing or directing patrons to appropriate support services and information in a friendly manner. They will ensure that all library spaces provide a safe study environment for patrons. This team will ensure the Main Library is opened and closed securely throughout the year, working a shift pattern that includes evenings and weekends.


The successful applicants will have a customer focus and be committed to providing high quality service in a friendly and welcoming manner. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential.


The role is based on City campus.


Your priorities will include:
* Provide a visible, welcoming and approachable presence throughout all areas of the Main Library.
* Monitor secure access to the Main Library and other Library spaces.
* Take pride and a sense of ownership of Library spaces, proactively monitor and report on all building and maintenance issues.
* Ensure all library spaces provide a safe and comfortable study environment for all patrons.
* Act as the primary point of first aid in the building, and Fire Warden in case of building evacuation.
* Carry out operational library tasks involving stock and computer-based activities.
Who we're looking for:
* Experience in a customer facing, library or academic environment.
* Demonstrates a commitment to upholding regulations and working with patrons to ensure compliance.
* Can demonstrate understanding and compassion in emergency or wellbeing support situations.
* Dependable team member who is also comfortable performing stock activities and computer-based library tasks.
* Represents all library services by being friendly, responsive and prompt in responding to requests.
