Crynodeb
Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and highly organised individual to join our dynamic Hepatology, Upper GI and Endoscopy team as maternity leave cover.
Our department is one of the busiest in London, delivering over 18,000 endoscopic procedures each year, operating a JAG-accredited Regional Training Centre and serving as the local hub for the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a fast-paced, high-performing service that plays a central role in regional GI cancer diagnostics and specialist care.
You will support the smooth and effective operational management of the Gastroenterology & Endoscopy service, working closely with the Service Manager, Specialty Manager and clinical teams.
We are looking for someone who is:
Highly organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities.
A confident communicator who can build effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
Experienced in healthcare operational or service management (desirable).
Skilled in problem-solving, service improvement and data analysis.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop and strengthen operational leadership skills within a thriving specialist service at the forefront of endoscopy and GI care.
Monitoring performance and supporting the delivery of national targets (DM01, RTT, FDS).
Supporting the coordination and delivery of annual JAG accreditation requirements.
Leading the collection and submission of JAG audit data.
Providing operational oversight and support to the Hepatology service.
Contributing to service planning, capacity and demand work, and pathway improvement across Upper GI and Hepatology.
Assisting with clinical governance, complaints, risks and incident management.
Line-managing administrative staff, ensuring full compliance with Trust HR policies.
Coordinating key meetings, preparing reports and supporting financial monitoring of cost centres.
Good communications skills and being able to work with all levels of staff are crucial, with the ability to remain calm under pressure to meet deadlines. You will be expected to organise and prioritise own workload and to assist colleagues to ensure the continuity of service at all times. Working in partnership with the Service Delivery Manager, they will provide managerial leadership, expertise and operational support within the service.
Working with the Service Delivery Manager and other members of the Gastroenterology & Endoscopy leadership team to support the wider strategic development of the defined service by providing operational business support in the development and implementation of the Directorate’s strategic objectives.
We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and, in recognition of our progress, we’ve been shortlisted for Trust of the Year at the Health Service Journal Awards.
We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.
Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub.
These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year.
The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
