About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Special Needs Assistant (SNA) to join our caring and inclusive infant school team. This role involves providing individualised support to a child with specific needs around communication and language development, ensuring they can access learning and thrive in a nurturing environment. This position is for four days a week and is fixed term to 31st August 2026 (with the potential to be extended depending on pupil cohort and funding)
Key Responsibilities
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement tailored strategies that support communication and language development.
• Use adapted materials and resources to meet the child’s individual learning needs.
• Apply bespoke approaches to encourage engagement and participation in classroom activities.
• Support the child in developing social interaction skills and positive relationships with peers.
• Implement strong behaviour management strategies that promote emotional regulation and a positive learning experience.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to the teaching team and parents.
Essential Skills and Expertise
• Experience working with children with additional needs, particularly in early years or infant settings.
• Strong understanding of communication and language interventions (e.g., visual prompts & timetables).
• Ability to demonstrate initiative and adapt approaches to suit the child’s evolving needs.
• Skilled in creating and using adapted learning materials.
• Excellent behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach.
• Good level of general education including English & Maths at GCSE grade C/4 or above or the equivalent.
• Empathy, patience, and a commitment to inclusive education.
• Ability to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and follow school policy and the staff code of conduct.
• Active and mobile with a positive proactive approach.Desirable
• Knowledge of speech and language development strategies.
• Familiarity with EHCPs and personalised learning plans.
• Training in positive behaviour support.
