Your Role

The Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC) is a national therapeutic problem-solving court model, which offers an alternative to standard care proceedings. FDACs use a trauma-informed approach to help families address their difficulties with substance/alcohol use, relationships, mental health concerns and other complex issues.

Your role will require you to undertake comprehensive assessments and along with the multi-disciplinary team plan and deliver a programme of work to meet the needs of the family.

You will work closely with a range of other professionals including the local authority, CAFCASS and community drug and alcohol services. Your role will also require you to provide regular reports to Court and to attend court regularly to support your allocated families through the FDAC proceedings.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a qualified social worker who has experience of working with families subject to care proceedings. You will have experience of working with families who have complex needs, including drug and alcohol misuse issues, mental health difficulties and trauma.

You will be an empathetic and creative social worker who is interested in working intensively with families to help create lasting change. You will have good problem-solving skills, be a team player and be non-judgmental in your approach. You must have the ability to remain calm and understanding in challenging and difficult situations and be interested in working therapeutically.

Current registration with Social Work England is essential as is DipSW/Degree in Social Work or equivalent.

The successful candidate will need a driving licence and access to a car during working hours and business insurance. FDAC currently work across Stockport, Manchester, Bolton, Tameside and Wigan; however is expanding across other Greater Manchester boroughs.

About Us

The specialist multi-disciplinary FDAC team includes therapeutic social workers, clinical psychologists, substance misuse, domestic abuse and parenting workers to provide intensive support, built around the family, designed to enable and empower parents to overcome their difficulties.

You will participate in regular multidisciplinary formulations where we will draw on the team's expertise to plan the most helpful interventions to suit the family’s needs. You will have the opportunity to work closely with all team members, including the FDAC clinical psychologist, to develop your own specialist knowledge and resources to effect change.

You will receive regular high-quality supervision and support, career development opportunities and the chance to be part of implementing the FDAC innovative model. You will have access to specialist training to help develop your understanding of the FDAC model and therapeutic approaches used.
