This is a great time to join The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant in Palliative Medicine.

We are currently in the process of redeveloping the hospital to provide a new state-of-the-art hospital for the residents of Hillingdon, and beyond, which supports the very best in delivery of healthcare and will be fit for our future.

We have over 3,500 members of staff that are proud to care for nearly half a million people across the Borough of Hillingdon, with a vision to be an outstanding provider of healthcare - our mission is to provide high quality, safe and compassionate care, improving the health and wellbeing of the people we serve.

We are seeking a Consultant in Palliative Medicine to replace a retiring colleague. Our palliative consultant team is based at THH but the postholder will have a focus on community palliative care and regular in-reach to hospice. Those with an existing sub-speciality interest in palliative care for neurodegenerative conditions will particularly enjoy this role but candidates with more general experience are also encouraged to apply.

The postholder will be a committed clinician with a track record of excellent clinical service delivery, service improvement, teaching, training and other qualities as identified in the person specification. It is a requirement of the post that every doctor takes part in annual job planning and annual appraisal as part of the revalidation of cycle.

The post-holder will be responsible to the Divisional Director of Unplanned Care at The Hillingdon Hospital and their job plan negotiated annually. It is a 6.5 PA post – 5 PA direct clinical care (DCC), and 1.5 supporting professional activities (SPA). Within this job plan SPA includes clinical supervisor role for GP trainees at hospice, audit and personal CPD. Personal CPD must be included as part of annual appraisal which is mandatory and required for the revalidation process.

The post holder will, together with their consultant colleagues and other health care professionals in the Directorate, provide an effective and comprehensive service for patients with palliative care needs and support continuing service developments.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

The safety and well-being of our patients and of our staff is paramount and we are making urgent improvements to address this – particularly in infection prevention and control. We are making progress and going forward by working in partnership with local GPs, charities,
community services, academic partners, our local authority, neighbouring hospitals and the wider North West London Integrated care system, and ensuring that we listen and work in partnership with our local population. We are absolutely focused on ensuring that our hospitals
provide high quality, safe and compassionate care, while drive forward the building of the new Hillingdon Hospital.

We have over 3,500 members of staff that are proud to care for nearly half a million people, with a vision to be an outstanding provider of healthcare through leading health and academic partnerships, transforming services, to provide the best care where needed.
