Applications are invited for a substantive whole-time Consultant (10 PAs) in a well-established and highly-regarded Neurology department in Norfolk.
The post is required to maintain current neurological services.
A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed, the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.
We welcome all applications irrespective of age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race or religion. Additionally, people with disabilities will be offered an interview providing they meet the minimum criteria for the post. The Trust operates job share and flexible working.
The appointee will be based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) and have on-call responsibilities for neurology, which are currently 1 in 7 and come with a 2% on call availability pay supplement. The appointee will be provided with an office/consulting room and secretarial support, which may be shared. The post-holder will have a dedicated computer with internet access.
Although the post is predominantly a general neurology post, the appointee would be at liberty to develop a subspecialty interest clinic, which would be encouraged and supported. Expertise or interest in headache disorders or epilepsy would be an advantage, but not essential, as would expertise in Botulinum toxin injections.
The job plan includes 4 clinics per week. The neurology outpatient clinics will, on average, contain 5-6 new patient slots and 4-5 follow-up slots. Ward referrals, which average at about 10 per week, are generally seen first by the neurology specialist trainees (StR) and are then discussed with and reviewed as necessary by the consultant on-call.
All future senior medical and dental appointments will be expected to work in collaboration across the Group and, irrespective of initial job description and job plan, be willing to work on more than one hospital site, dependent on service needs.
