The School 

The School of Humanities offers degree programmes across twelve subject areas. We have a diverse PGT portfolio and a rapidly growing PGR community. We are active in projects involving decolonising the curriculum, work-related learning, and supportive and inclusive pedagogies. We have a thriving research community with a combination of early career researchers and active senior researchers. With around 80 staff, we are a friendly and collegiate community. 

Politics and International Relations

Politics and International Relations is a dynamic and ambitious subject area that offers undergraduate programmes in Politics and Politics and International Relations, and an MA programme in International Politics and Security. The subject area has experienced significant recent growth in International Relations in particular. Staff research expertise covers topics such as postcolonial politics, foreign policy, crises, social movements, and political theory. Staff are passionate about the student experience: in the 2025 NSS, Politics and International Relations students responded with 94% positivity scores for how well teaching staff supported their learning and how much students’ opinions about the courses were valued.

The Role
As a Lecturer in Politics and International Relations, you will become part of a small team of dedicated teachers and researchers. You will deliver core and optional modules at all levels, with a particular emphasis on the MA in International Politics and Security. You will also be expected to contribute to wider teaching, including supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and work-related learning, and to open days and school liaison activities. It is expected that you will be keen to contribute to administrative duties in the subject area, and to the collaborative and inclusive ethos of the School and University. This role is part-time working 18.5 hours per week.

Required skills and experience 

The successful applicant should possess a doctoral degree and an academic background in Politics and/or International Relations, or a cognate discipline. Experience of teaching and supervising international students at postgraduate level is essential, and experience of delivering work-related learning and academic administration is desirable. The successful applicant will be collegial and eager to contribute to the culture of the subject area.
