Gentrafix will represent a technological breakthrough as the only platform capable of delivering therapeutic genes to most of the cells in an affected tissue or organ. We are located at Alderley Park, the UK’s largest science park, in the beautiful Cheshire countryside near to Manchester.
The role
An exciting full-time position in gene therapy, you will be an integral member of a small team working to develop Gentrafix for in vivo gene delivery, expression and editing of both nuclear and mitochondrial genes. You will initially construct and test plasmids to optimise plasmid replication and intercellular transmission in cell culture and develop assays to test the platform. The goal is to engineer experimental treatments for some of the most prevalent genetic diseases. The role will predominantly be laboratory-based and is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience and influence the growth of the company. Key skills required include:
-Cell culture and cell engineering.
-Analysis of recombinant protein expression including western blot and ELISA.
-Designing and constructing plasmids in E. coli.
-Performing DNA extraction, PCR and qPCR.
-Gene editing including CRISPR.
-Thorough researching of relevant literature and writing reports to a high standard.
Experience of membrane biology or mitochondria would be advantageous but not essential.

You must have a strong background in molecular and cell biology research in gene therapy, gene editing or recombinant protein expression in mammalian cells with:
-A PhD, or Masters degree and 5+ years industrial experience, in molecular or cell biology.
-A track record of undertaking original research.
-A capacity for independent thinking.
-Excellent problem-solving skills.
-Entitlement to work in the UK.
