Communications and Engagement Officer (Temporary)
As part of Renfrewshire Council’s ambitious plans for investment over the next decade, we are seeking an experienced communications and engagement officer to join our communications, marketing and events team to support the delivery of a range of major capital infrastructure projects across the area. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference by joining at a time of unprecedented challenge and change - when effective and engaging communications are essential.
The Council has a £1billion programme of investment over the next few years and believes that to meet current and future challenges we will need to work even more closely with partners and communities to develop and maintain a vibrant local economy, provide a sustainable business and cultural infrastructure, and to improve and protect the environment of Renfrewshire.
We want to continue to improve opportunities for all those who live and work in the area and in particular those most in need, ensuring equality and fairness for all. The Council will not deliver these outcomes on its own – but can if it works closely and effectively with the wider community.
Our communications and community engagement needs to support these aims. As a member of the Corporate Communications team, you will be working closely with services to develop and deliver effective public communications, and engagement plans to support the delivery of a number of major capital infrastructure projects across the region.
It is essential that you have a relevant degree or equivalent qualification and experience of working in communications and stakeholder engagement with evidence of experience in one or more of the following areas:
Developing public communications and stakeholder engagement plans.
Developing effective, engaging digital content across a range of channels
Delivering communications and engagement activity in partnership with other teams
and organisations.
Managing the efficient and effective delivery of an organisation’s communications, web and social media presence.
Developing proactive news and features for the media.
Producing well designed and targeted campaigns and maintaining brand consistency.
You must have extensive knowledge of media and digital platforms, be creative, innovative and enthusiastic with vision and drive and be able to exercise initiative and work well without close supervision with a clear and focused judgement.
Effective communications, presentation, analytical skills and IT Skills with effective content skills across a number of channels is essential as Is the ability to initiate, innovate and project manage workload effectively.
You must have a full current driving licence
Previous relevant experience in local government or a similar diverse organisation and knowledge and understanding of current policy issues and developments affecting local government and wider public sector environment is desirable but not essential.
Please note that this post is temporary, subject to business needs, and funded for two years or until the requirement for the post ceases, whichever date is the earlier.
