Havencare is a forward-thinking and growing charity. We have been making a difference for 35+ years, changing the lives of people who have learning disabilities, autism, brain injuries, and other support needs.

At Havencare, first and foremost, we are looking for outstanding people who align with our values of Transparency, Quality and Engagement.

We are looking for motivated, resilient and forward-thinking people and are excited about the opportunity for you to join our team, supporting Mr B and Mr J in the Leedstown area.

About the Role
Mr B is a man with a diagnosis of Autism in his late 50s. He loves a cuppa and interaction with staff. Recently, his health has declined and needs support to recognise how he is feeling and to take action with appointments etc.

Mr J is a man with Autism and epilepsy, in his mid-30s. He enjoys the safety of his bed and requires a sensory-filled approach.

Mr J can at times express himself in a distressed state.

This role requires confidence and an understanding of supporting a person in distress. Being curious and non-judgemental to focus on why something happened opposed to what happened through ‘off-loading’ and reflecting on practice

Although both men have a good understanding of spoken communication, they use Makaton and other visual-based communication styles to enhance and make their wishes and preferences known.

Mr B enjoys going out for a cup of coffee and listening to 80s music whilst Mr J enjoys relaxing in the garden, watching TV or going for a drive with the windows down and the wind blowing through his hair. Both Mr B and Mr J are encouraged to go out in the fresh air to enjoy a walk or two when the weather is agreeable.

You will enjoy working as a team, identifying activities that both can enjoy and are meaningful to them.

Both men present with obsessive behaviours, communicating through these behaviours, needing you to help them cope with a world that can be confusing to them. They both have their own coping strategies and support guidance developed by those that know them well and working with external/health professionals. Both men require reassurance and consistency to feel safe and understood.

Both Mr B and Mr J require 1:1 support throughout their day, with some additional 2:1 to support community activities and sharing overnight support. A consistent, relaxed and observant approach at all times and encouraging a healthy sleep routine overnight.

You will need to pay attention, picking up on all communication cues and behaviours to direct the right support.
