Crynodeb
The post holder will participate in the consultant-led paediatric trauma service to maintain high quality trauma care with consultant involvement in early operative work and fracture clinic supervision. They will be involved in the comprehensive paediatric elective service. As well as general paediatric elective work, the successful applicant will be expected to take on a sub-specialist role sharing the management of the developmental dysplasia of the hip and clubfoot service in order to compliment the interests and sub-specialities of the current post holders. Experience within other specific areas of paediatric orthopaedics is desirable but not essential, for example, limb reconstruction, pelvic and hip surgery, or foot & ankle surgery. Surgical care will encompass the whole range of paediatric elective work and general paediatric trauma. The post holder will be required to adopt a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge, in partnership with other consultant colleagues. The successful candidate will share in the Departments management and administrative responsibilities, representing the department in Trust committees and delivering the departments patient safety and quality improvement agenda. Secretarial support and office facilities will be provided and the department also has additional admin support to facilitate audits etc. The successful candidate will be appointed on the new consultant contract which will consist of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs). This will consist of 8 PAs for direct clinical care and 2 PAs for supporting professional activities as outlined above. An initial 2 SPAs are allocated to cover revalidation, safe practice and training of registrars and fellows. The job plan will be reviewed at 6 months and additional PAs may be allocated for management roles. The on-call commitment is 1 PA per week and carries a supplement of 8% for on-call. Details with regard to the number and arrangement of programmed activities will be agreed with the successful candidate. Where duties require travel between two sites, travel expenses will be reimbursed. There will be time built into the job plan where travel between sites is required however it is expected this will be minimised wherever possible. For those consultants wishing to undertake private practice; the Trust does not require them to do an extra Programmed Activity.
