SALARY: £87,552 - £107,008

LOCATION(S): Halifax, Bristol, Cardiff, Chester, Edinburgh, Leeds & Newport

HOURS: Full Time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

About this opportunity

Are you an employment lawyer interested in working in a varied role in a friendly and relationship-driven team that will provide you with an outstanding opportunity to foster your ongoing personal and professional development?

We have an exciting opportunity for an Employment Lawyer to join Lloyds Banking Group's HR Legal Team within the Legal & Secretariat Function at a time when we are reshaping how and what we do and acquiring the skills we need for the future!

The HR Legal Team is responsible for the provision of employment legal advice across the Group. We support a wide range of stakeholders across the People & Places Function, our wider LBG businesses and other teams in our Legal & Secretariat Function. We work in an agile and collaborative way and pride ourselves on providing commercially aware and pragmatic advice at pace whilst helping to manage legal risk and deliver strategic outcomes.

We are looking for an Employment Lawyer to contribute to our delivery of employment law advice and support across the Group at all stages of the employment lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be required to proactively identify and manage key employment legal risks and their implications for the Group so that you can support the business with pragmatic, solution-focused advice

  • Have an ability to rapidly switch between different issues and priorities

  • Have the autonomy to handle your own workload and work across different teams across the Group

  • Contribute to the provision of strategic employment law advice across the Group by advising on a broad range of employment matters, including discrimination, whistleblowing, TUPE, redundancies and settlement agreements

  • Providing advice on complex disciplinaries, grievances, performance and sickness absence cases

  • Provide oversight and support for business areas with outsourced employment litigation cases

  • Providing advice on changes in legislation and the impact on the Group's policies and processes

  • Manage external legal counsel and ensure cost-effective delivery of legal services, including through the use of technology

  • Support the senior lawyers in the team and the Head of HR Legal to ensure appropriate cover according to team and business needs

  • Keep abreast of employment law developments, share knowledge across the team and continually develop your skills

  • Support the team's initiative to provide training to the People & Places Function on relevant legal topics.

More broadly, you'll:

  • Support the strategic activities of the Legal & Secretariat Function which align to LBG's purpose, strategy and culture.

  • Demonstrate our values and behaviours to support our culture; and

  • Build and maintain a strong internal network and key customer and colleague connections.

Why Lloyds Banking Group

If you think all banks are the same, you'd be wrong. We're an innovative, fast-changing business that's shaping finance as a force for good. A bank that's empowering its people to innovate, explore possibilities and grow with purpose.

What you'll need

  • Legally qualified with at least 5+ years' PQE or equivalent experience, having spent time in a leading private practice firm and ideally time in an established in-house legal team

  • Good knowledge and understanding of UK employment law and experience of advising on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment law matters throughout the employment lifecycle

  • Particular experience in employment litigation

  • Strong commercial awareness, a focus on providing practical and solution-orientated advice and an ability to build deep customer relationships by having a customer focused approach

  • A growth mindset, curious to learn and develop yourself to acquire the skills of the future

  • A desire to be an engaged and proactive member of the Legal & Secretariat community, to get involved in opportunities outside of the day job and to develop your internal personal profile and network

  • Knowledge of the financial services sector and its regulatory environment or a desire to learn about it.

About working for us

Our ambition is to be the leading UK business for diversity, equity and inclusion supporting our customers, colleagues and communities, and we're committed to creating an environment in which everyone can thrive, learn and develop.

We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer Initiative.

We offer reasonable workplace adjustments for colleagues with disabilities, including flexibility in office attendance, location and working patterns. And, as a Disability Confident Leader, we guarantee interviews for a fair and proportionate number of applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the role with a disability, long-term health or neurodivergent condition through the Disability Confident Scheme.

We provide reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process to reduce or remove barriers. Just let us know what you need.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%

  • An annual performance-related bonus

  • Share schemes including free shares

  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping

  • 30 days' holiday, with bank holidays on top

  • A range of wellbeing initiatives and generous parental leave policies

If you're excited by the thought of becoming part of our team, get in touch! We'd love to hear from you!
