Catering Assistant - Turn your kitchen skills into a force for good-we're looking for a Catering Assistant to help us serve not just nutritious meals, but confidence and independence to the young people we support.

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive and dedicated Catering Assistant to play a vital role in creating a positive mealtime experience for the young people in our care.

In this hands-on position, you will do more than just serve food; you will support inclusive, person-centred dining experiences that promote independence and choice. Working closely with the Senior Cook, you will assist with meal preparation, maintain high standards of hygiene, and ensure the kitchen runs efficiently.

Please note: Due to the physical nature of the role-including manual handling and long periods of standing-a good level of physical fitness is essential.

Key Responsibilities

You will be expected to diversify and lend a hand wherever required, but your main duties will include:

Food Preparation & Service

  • Assist the Senior Cook with meal preparation, ensuring correct portioning, temperature control, and presentation standards.

  • Serve food respectfully, taking into account individual dietary needs, preferences, and allergens.

  • Ensure strict compliance with Natasha's Law regarding allergen information and labelling.

  • Receive, check, and store food deliveries in line with safety standards.

Hygiene & Safety

  • Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, including cleaning equipment, surfaces, and floors.

  • Follow Health and Safety and Food Hygiene practices, including compliance with COSHH regulations.

  • Carry out and record equipment and maintenance checks.

  • Respond appropriately to food-related emergencies, such as allergic reactions, following site-specific procedures.

Supporting Young People

  • Engage positively with young people during mealtimes to promote their independence and social skills.

  • Collaborate with education and care teams to ensure mealtimes support holistic wellbeing.

  • Demonstrate strict adherence to Safeguarding Policies, promoting the welfare and dignity of children and young adults at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

To succeed in this role, you should have a genuine passion for delivering excellent service and an ability to work well in a busy environment. We are looking for someone who is:

  • Organised & Detail-Oriented: You have a keen eye for detail, especially regarding food safety and hygiene.

  • Proactive: You are comfortable working independently when needed and can manage tasks efficiently.

  • Resilient: You are physically fit and capable of meeting the physical demands of a busy kitchen.

  • Empathetic: You can maintain professional, respectful relationships with staff and young people, upholding our values in every interaction.

How to Apply

If you are ready to contribute to a kitchen that makes a real difference in young people's lives, we would love to hear from you.
