Crynodeb

This role is for someone who brings maturity, patience and calm. A specialist Alternative Resource Provision is looking for a Learning Support Assistant with experience of working with children who have significant additional needs. Every child in this small unit receives one to one support, so this job suits someone who can truly commit to helping a young person feel safe, understood and able to learn in their own way.

This is not a role for someone who wants to sit back and supervise. It is a role for someone who can see what needs doing, take initiative and gently guide a child through each part of the school day. You will work closely with experienced teachers and therapists to create structure and routine, while also being flexible enough to change approach when a child needs something different in that moment.

What you will do:

• Work one to one with pupils who have complex and varied needs
• Support learning through carefully planned, flexible activities
• Build trust through patience, warmth and consistent boundaries
• Help pupils regulate emotions and communicate their needs
• Keep learning on track by calmly redirecting and guiding
• Work as part of a small, committed team
• Contribute ideas for activities and approaches that genuinely help each pupil

What you will bring

• Real experience of working with children who have additional needs
• A mature and steady presence that helps pupils feel grounded
• Empathy, clear communication and calm decision making
• An ability to read situations and act before dynamics escalate
• A willingness to learn from colleagues and share your own strengths
• A genuine belief that progress happens through small, steady steps

A chance to step up:

For applicants with significant experience in specialist or alternative provisions, there may be an opportunity to take on additional responsibilities as a team leader. This involves supporting colleagues, modelling strong practice and helping shape provision for pupils with the highest needs.

Why this role feels meaningful:

This is a job where you see the difference you make. A day may include helping a child take part in a lesson they once avoided, supporting a moment of communication that has been hard won or guiding a young person through challenges with dignity and reassurance. You will be one of the reliable adults they can count on and the effects of that consistency are powerful.

How to apply

Please send your CV to register your interest. Early applications are encouraged as interviews may be arranged upon receipt.
