What you’ll do:
Run short, well-planned boosters in phonics, reading comprehension, spelling and number fluency. Pre-teach upcoming content, guide small groups, and provide 1:1 catch up when needed. Use simple resources, model clear steps, and log quick outcomes so next actions are obvious to class teachers.

Who you are:
A tidy, reliable graduate who explains ideas plainly. You notice misconceptions early, keep sessions focused, and help pupils grow independence.

Requirements

- Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication – Strong verbal and written communication.
- Enhanced DBS – A valid Enhanced DBS certificate or willingness to obtain one.
- Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting young people and pursuing a career in education.
- Experience working with children – Any relevant experience such as tutoring, mentoring or volunteering is desirable but not essential.


The School:
This ‘Good’ large primary in Yardley is three or more forms of entry, with calm, predictable routines from arrival to home time. Reading sits at the centre of the curriculum. Phonics is systematic in the early years. Guided reading runs daily in KS1 and KS2 with a strong focus on vocabulary. Maths is taught in small steps with frequent retrieval and consistent methods between classes. Teams co-plan and share high quality materials, including model texts, worked examples and ready to use intervention packs, so you are never starting from scratch. Inclusion is embedded. The SEN team uses plan do review cycles and provides quick access to visual supports and regulation spaces. New colleagues receive a structured induction, weekly short CPD and coaching drop ins with precise, usable next moves. You get the conditions to show impact quickly and build evidence for initial teacher training.
