Senior Clinical Scientist MPE – RADIOISOTOPES - BAND 8A

This opportunity has arisen, for an enthusiastic, motivated, clinical scientist to join our Radioisotope Physics team. We provide support to radioisotope services in various departments, including oncology, nuclear medicine and PET/CT, nuclear cardiology, laboratories etc.

Candidates for this post must be registered Clinical Scientists and ideally be registered as MPE but candidates with desirable skills and experience which are working toward registration/certification would also be considered and offered support to gain this. They will provide clinical, scientific and technical expert advice and specialist training in support of the above services and lead with the molecular dosimetry work of the team. They will be strongly encouraged to participate in R&D projects and be involved in the radiation protection support.

We support 5 SPECT/CT gamma cameras and 2 PET / CT scanners including several digital scanners. 1 gamma camera and 1 PET/CT scanner will be replaced with the latest digital technology this year. The clinical services we support provide a wide range of radionuclide therapies and diagnostic imaging and non-imaging tests. In addition, the group is to be starting the dosimetry service for MRT and are also very involved in the provision of radiation protection support to all departments using radioisotopes. The section also provides support to a large number of clinical trials, including novel PET and SPECT tracers and new therapeutic techniques. Our groups has strong collaborative relationships with several industry partners. and this is an excellent opportunity to join a large collaborative team with strong research links and potential lecturing opportunities in the MSc in Medical Physics with Radiobiology course at the University of Oxford. For informal discussion about the post, please contact Aida Hallam, Head of Radioisotope Physics on 01865 235341 (aida.hallam@ouh.nhs.uk)

The main responsibilities of this post are to:

Undertake the IRMER duty holder role of a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Radioisotope Physics. Provide clinical, scientific and technical expert advice and specialist training in support of the above clinical services. Ensure the correct operation of a range of nuclear medicine imaging equipment, and isotope calibration equipment. Carry out highly complex procedures, introducing new techniques, setting up and optimising clinical protocols and participate in service improvement and applied research projects.
