Job Advert – Business Support Assistant (Admin & Clerical)
Customer: Monmouthshire County Council
Location: County Hall, Usk, NP15 1GA (Free Parking)
Contract: Temporary, Full‑time (37 hours per week)
Duration: 20 weeks (cover for secondment)
Start Date: 2 December 2025
Hours: Monday–Friday, 08:00–16:00
Rate: £13.69 per hour (PAYE) / £17.41 per hour (Umbrella/Ltd)
About the Role
We are seeking a Business Support Assistant to join Monmouthshire County Council’s Children’s Services team. This is a varied and rewarding role within a supportive team environment, providing essential administrative and clerical support to social work teams.
Following an initial five‑week training period in the office, the role will move to a hybrid pattern (three days in the office, two days working from home).
Key Responsibilities
Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence (letters, emails, mail merges, verbal communications).
Maintain accurate records and file management (paper and electronic).
Support with Data Protection Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and police requests.
Provide general administrative support: photocopying, scanning, printing, booking rooms, transport, and hotels.
Diary management, meeting bookings, invites, and minutes.
Maintain supplies and stock control.
Conduct digital file audits to ensure compliance.
Support IT tasks including setting up laptops and recording equipment.
Handle petty cash and record transactions.
Act as first point of contact for safeguarding referrals, calls, and messages.
Create and maintain children’s records on the PLANT database, ensuring statutory deadlines are met.
Support colleagues with system administration, troubleshooting, and training.
Assist managers with recruitment administration and staff development.
About You
We are looking for someone with:
Recent and strong administration and IT skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
A professional phone manner and strong customer service skills.
A proactive, flexible, and resilient approach.
Ability to work well in a team and support colleagues.
A “can‑do” attitude and commitment to delivering high‑quality support.
Access to a car and ability to commute (within 30 minutes of Usk).
