Crynodeb

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair, and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counterterrorism, policing, crime, drugs policy, immigration, and passports.

Home Office Digital designs, builds, and develops services for the rest of the department and for government. Every year our systems support up to three million visa applications, checks on 100 million border crossings, up to 8 million passport applications and deliver 140 million police checks on people, vehicles, and property.

Home Office Automation and Innovation is delivering the government's commitment to "set the standard for excellence in the AI age" - harnessing innovative technology to revolutionise public service delivery. As outlined in the Government's Generative AI Framework, we are in "a period of rapid and exciting technological changes, which offers huge potential" - and we are turning that potential into reality.

Our work spans the incredible diversity of the Home Office's mission-critical operations - from transforming Border Security and Immigration processes to revolutionising Asylum case management and enhancing Counter-Terrorism capabilities. Imagine developing technology that helps reunite families, creates safer communities, protects vulnerable people, and ensures smoother journeys for the millions travelling to and from the UK.

Each area presents unique challenges where AI and automation can deliver substantial efficiency savings while improving outcomes for both the public and our colleagues.

We are not just talking about AI's potential – we are actively building solutions that make a real difference to people's everyday experiences.

The Automation & Innovation (A&I) business unit operates at an impressive pace. We have already delivered millions in efficiency savings by automating routine tasks, allowing our operational colleagues to focus on the complex human-centred work where they add the most value. Every solution we implement ripples across the organisation, creating meaningful and measurable improvements in how government serves the public.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Management of the Automation Centre’s pipeline of projects, ensuring the accuracy, relevance, and high integrity of data.
  • Supporting the Finance Business Partners in the management of resources approved through our governance processes and project cycles.
  • Organising key stakeholder management events, in collaboration with the Communications and Engagement team and Senior Management Team.
  • Consulting with the Workforce Planner and recruitment managers to ensure accurate headcount across A&I, and the smooth on and offboarding of joiners, movers, and leavers.
  • Implementing A&I performance and control processes and supporting governance forums through Secretariat support.
  • Maintaining a robust reporting process to highlight progress, identify anomalies, risks, and constraints.
  • Coordinating data gathering, drafting returns, and obtaining clearances for performance reports and commissions, and other related PMO products.
  • Supporting other business management and commercial activities to ensure that A&I is meeting its milestones.
  • Owning the Knowledge Management strategy, which includes providing/revoking access and maintaining project artefacts on SharePoint and M365, and taking responsibility for the standard documentation and resources used across the Portfolio.
  • Ownership of the Risk Management Strategy, which includes management of Risk and Issues across workstreams, and ensuring alignment with the escalation process.
  • Leading on continuous improvement based on the PMO’s remit to help the programme build a strong culture of risk management and benefits realisation.

Line Management Responsibilities:

Management of civil servants and contractor/s and/or agency worker/s.
