Steady Wheel Transport Ltd is a friendly, professional same-day courier and logistics company based in Preston, Lancashire. We specialise in time-critical and scheduled deliveries across the UK, supporting a wide range of domestic and commercial clients.

We’re now looking for part-time Driver’s Assistants (AIT Contract) to join our growing team. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with others, is happy to be hands-on, and wants to be part of a supportive, customer-focused delivery team.
Weekend work will be available as part of this role.

About the Role
As a Part-Time Driver’s Assistant, you’ll work alongside a lead driver to deliver items such as household goods, appliances, and furniture. Your role will include helping with loading and unloading, carrying items safely into customers’ homes or premises, and providing a warm, professional service with every delivery.

You’ll be travelling in a company van on planned AIT delivery routes and will play an important part in maintaining Steady Wheel Transport’s reputation for reliability and excellent customer care.

Key Responsibilities
Support the lead driver with loading, unloading, and delivering goods across the North West and wider UK.

Help carry, position, and handle items such as fridges, washers, sofas, and other household goods.

Handle all items with care to ensure safe, damage-free delivery.

Contact customers 30–60 minutes before arrival using the approved company script.

Assist with completing proof of delivery and updating the Driver App.

Carry out basic vehicle checks and help keep the van tidy and safe throughout the day.

Represent Steady Wheel Transport with a friendly attitude and excellent customer service.

Follow health and safety guidelines, including safe manual-handling procedures.

What We’re Looking For
Aged 18+ with the right to work in the UK.

Ability to complete a Basic or Enhanced DBS check before starting.

Physically fit and able to lift items up to 25kg.

Reliable, punctual, and available for part-time shifts (with weekend work available).

Good communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude.

Professional appearance and a friendly approach with customers.

Experience in delivery or furniture handling is helpful but not essential — full guidance will be provided.

Uniform & Equipment
Driver’s Assistants are required to wear:

Black trousers

Black polo shirt

Hi-vis vest or jacket

Hard-cap safety boots

You’ll also need to bring a simple tool such as a manual or electric screwdriver for basic furniture tasks.

A company van will be provided, shared with the lead driver on all assigned routes.
