Role Summary
We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Pharmacy Dispenser to join our dispensary team. As a dispenser at Colchester City Pharmacy, you will work under the supervision of the pharmacist to ensure the accurate dispensing of prescriptions, manage stock, provide excellent customer service, and contribute to a safe and efficient pharmacy operation.
Key Responsibilities:
Accurately prepare, label, and dispense prescription medications in line with standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Verify prescription data and endorse prescriptions as needed
Handle repeat prescription requests and process them efficiently
Assist in stock management: ordering, receiving, checking, and rotating stock to minimize wastage
Maintain accurate records of controlled drugs, where applicable:
Prepare monitored dosage systems (e.g., dosette boxes), if required
Provide patients with basic advice on how to take their medicines, referring to the pharmacist for clinical queries:
Support day-to-day dispensary operations, including housekeeping, filing, and pharmacy administration
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including health & safety, data protection, and pharmacy legislation
Work collaboratively with the pharmacy team to deliver a high standard of patient care
Person Specification / Requirements:
Essential:
Previous experience working in a pharmacy or dispensary environment
Good numeracy and literacy skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Good communication skills and a customer-friendly attitude
Basic IT skills (to use pharmacy software)
Ability to work as part of a team and under supervision
Flexible to work a variety of shifts (may include weekends)
Desirable:
NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Pharmacy Services / Dispenser qualification
Experience with monitored dosage systems / dosette boxes
Oakfields Health Group
Prior experience in community pharmacy
Other Requirements
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo)
Basic understanding of pharmacy regulatory standards
Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality
