Initial contract for 2 months
We are seeking candidates with experience providing policy advice, manage and interpret data, and use digital and GIS systems to inform evidence-based decision-making and ensure the Local Plan remains up to date, effective and responsive to changing needs.
The role: The Senior Planning Officer will play a key role in shaping the future of the District by contributing to the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the Local Plan and associated planning policy documents. Working within a collaborative team environment, the role supports the delivery of a sustainable development strategy that addresses local priorities, meets statutory planning requirements and guides future growth.
Key Accountabilities
Contribute to the research, drafting, and review of Local Plan documents, supplementary planning documents and other policy materials to ensure compliance with national and local planning frameworks.
Provide clear and accurate planning policy advice to colleagues, councillors, developers and the public to support decision-making and the delivery of sustainable development.
Develop, implement and maintain effective systems to monitor Local Plan performance, including data collection, analysis and reporting on key indicators.
Use GIS, digital tools and other ICT systems to manage spatial and statistical data, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, and supports plan-making and monitoring processes.
Prepare reports, consultation materials, presentations and other documents that communicate complex planning information in a clear and accessible way.
Assist with managing allocated budgets, ensuring expenditure is monitored and remains within agreed limits.
Key Criteria
Proven experience of contributing to the preparation, delivery or monitoring of planning policy documents or related strategic planning work.
Demonstrate a good understanding of planning law, national planning policy, and the statutory processes involved in preparing and monitoring Local Plans.
Demonstrates understanding of one or more key policy areas such as housing, environment, transport or infrastructure.
Ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information and data, drawing logical conclusions to inform decisions and policy development.
Proficient in using ICT systems, including GIS and other digital tools, to support planning and monitoring work.
Ability to use professional judgement, initiative and creativity to develop practical and effective solutions to planning issues.
Ability to monitor budgets and ensure spending remains within agreed limits.
