Job Title: Environmental Health Officer

Salary: £20.74 per hour PAYE with accrued holiday and pension contribution

Hours: 36 hours per week Monday-Friday

Role length: 2 months opening assignment

Job type: Flexible and remote working
Location: Brent



Contract Type: Temporary



The role: You will deliver environmental health enforcement work across the borough, focusing on health and safety. The post involves inspections, investigations, evidence gathering, enforcement, and providing clear professional advice to businesses and the public. You will support the team in managing complaints, service requests, and statutory duties, ensuring compliance and safeguarding community wellbeing.



Key Responsibilities:

Carry out inspections, visits, surveys and investigations in line with legislation and local procedures.
Assess evidence, determine non-compliance and take proportionate enforcement action.
Prepare professional reports, statements and case files, and present evidence when required.
Provide sound advice, guidance and technical information to businesses, colleagues and residents.
Handle statutory applications, consultations and licences.
Support performance targets and deliver work within agreed timescales.
Represent the council at meetings and work effectively with partner agencies.



What the client is looking for:

A competent Environmental Health Officer or Enforcement Officer with experience in health and safety regulation.
Strong investigative skills and confidence in taking enforcement action where necessary.
Ability to analyse evidence, draft clear reports and manage cases independently
Good communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with businesses and the public.
Flexibility to support the service during peaks in workload or urgent situations.





Desirable:

Registration with EHRB or equivalent.
Experience delivering complex or high-risk enforcement work.
Confidence in mentoring less experienced colleagues.
Ability to use monitoring equipment and relevant software systems.
