The role is based at the Open Spaces Depot in Margate (set hours of operation 7.30am to 3.30pm) and includes the line management of the Tree Team and Tree & Biodiversity Coordinator. Your experience of managing teams will ensure we maximise the outputs from the team to keep open spaces safe whilst conserving tree stock and biodiversity wherever possible, including leading on the Council’s two trees planted for every tree felled policy.
Why this role matters
Thanet District Council not only has trees in its parks and open spaces, but across its landownership from car parks, to housing areas, to industrial estates. This role is key in inspecting and managing our tree stock, to preserve and manage it where possible and remove it when necessary to keep residents safe. Thanet District Council also has declared a climate emergency and this role is an important to improve our tree cover and biodiversity, re-planting, planting new mini-woodlands and increasing our conservation grassland areas under our ‘Pollinator Patch’ scheme.
What you’ll be doing
This is a varied role and your expertise will be used to support various departments across the council as well as the Open Spaces Team. On a day to day basis your role is likely to include:
Tree surveys and reports
Tree team management including workflow, safety assessments and method statements
Planning and implementation of environmental projects such as tree planting/conservation grasslands
Providing advice/reports for other TDC departments on their tree stock
Support wider park improvement projects as part of the Open Spaces Management Team
Why join us?
The work undertaken by the Open Spaces Team impacts Thanet residents everyday, from tree works to playgrounds to cutting grass and hedges in our parks. You will play an integral role within the Open Spaces Management Team as we continue to improve the service we provide to Thanet’s residents.
If this sounds like the challenge you’re looking for, we’d love to hear from you.
