Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Associate Mechanical Engineer to join a growing engineering and sustainability team. This role will help strengthen existing foundations and contribute to the continued, balanced growth of the business.
You’ll oversee day-to-day project delivery and mechanical team leadership - managing the design and implementation of mechanical, electrical, and public health systems while working closely with internal colleagues, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
This is an exciting opportunity to influence the long-term technical and strategic direction of the mechanical discipline, shaping a positive and progressive engineering culture that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as project and mechanical lead on complex multidisciplinary projects, coordinating the wider team to deliver successful outcomes.
- Oversee project performance, ensuring delivery aligns with client objectives, budgets, and programme milestones.
- Manage financial, design, and risk elements of multiple projects, reporting to senior leadership.
- Contribute to the strategic growth, structure, and development of the mechanical team.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring, identifying training and development opportunities for team members.
- Undertake feasibility studies, site surveys, and design reviews; produce detailed reports, specifications, and design packages that align with best practice and regulatory standards.
- Maintain and develop technical standards, specifications, and documentation to ensure quality and consistency.
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to balance design integrity, cost, and sustainability objectives.
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture that promotes learning and wellbeing.
- Support business development, including tender submissions and client engagement, with guidance from senior leadership.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mechanical building services design and project delivery, ideally with a focus on district heating, communal networks, and low-carbon energy systems.
- Proven experience in the design, specification, and delivery of heat networks, including energy centres, secondary networks, and customer connections.
- Strong understanding of CIBSE CP1 (Heat Networks: Code of Practice) and its practical application throughout the project lifecycle.
- 10+ years’ experience in mechanical building services design and project delivery
- Demonstrable experience leading engineering projects from early concept to completion, including stakeholder engagement and client management.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
- In-depth understanding of industry standards, best practices, and regulations, with a passion for innovation and quality.
Why Join?
- Be part of a mission-driven consultancy focused on creating meaningful environmental and social impact.
- Work within a supportive, inclusive culture that values creativity, wellbeing, and collaboration.
- Enjoy a flexible working environment that encourages personal and professional growth.
- Access structured career progression and long-term development opportunities.
