Crynodeb
Mid Devon District Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Deputy Waste Manager to support the Waste and Transport Manager in the operational delivery and performance management of the Council’s Waste Management Service.
You will be responsible for supervising Waste Supervisors and ensuring the effective delivery of domestic refuse, recycling, and trade waste services. This includes workforce planning and supporting the development of recycling infrastructure and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams delivering waste services.
Ensure compliance with legislation, health and safety, and environmental standards.
Develop and implement operational policies and procedures.
Respond to complaints, audits, and incidents with professionalism and efficiency.
Support service improvements and digital transformation.
Provide weekend and bank holiday management cover as required.
What we’re looking for:
Essential:
Degree or equivalent professional qualification, or extensive relevant experience.
Significant experience in waste management and team leadership.
Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, Health & Safety and performance management.
Excellent communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
Level 4 Certificate of Technical Competence in Waste Management Operations.
LGV C licence and vehicle management experience.
Experience with project management systems and budget monitoring.
The post holder will need to be flexible as to start and finish times to deal with breakdowns, cover and late arrivals.
A full driving licence is required, a good knowledge of health and safety and vehicle legislation along with a can do attitude. In return the successful applicant can expect the support and training to enhance their performance and role.
