The Buckinghamshire Acute Speech and Language Therapy Team have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic therapist to join the team. You will be a key member of our acute paediatric service, working at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

This post offers the opportunity to specialise in acute paediatrics and neonatal care. The post holder will work collaboratively with the acute and community paediatric SLT teams, the acute SLT team and MDT colleagues. They will support with service delivery and innovation.

Experience of delivering instrumental assessment of swallowing for children (Videofluoroscopy) would be beneficial, but training can be provided if required. Competencies in neonatal care is required, and the post holder will be supported in their ongoing development in these areas. The post holder will also have the opportunity to work with children with spinal cord injuries.

This post offers the opportunity to develop leadership skills and the post holder may be expected to clinically supervise other members of the team as well as be actively involved in clinical governance of the service.

This post would be considered for a band 6 development post for the right applicant.

The post holder will provide highly specialist clinical input to a paediatric caseload and advise about the development of service. The post holder will work alongside speech and language therapy and multi-disciplinary colleagues on the paediatric, spinal and neo-natal wards. They will independently manage their caseloads within these settings. Liaison with the multi-disciplinary team and community speech and language therapy colleagues is key to this post.

The post holder will:

· Use highly specialist clinical skills to manage a specialist caseload of paediatric feeding, swallowing and/or acute communication difficulties.

· Identify, assess and diagnose swallowing impairments and implement management programmes or therapy where appropriate.

· Provide specialist input in a range of settings focusing on acute care.

· To act as an advisor providing specialist knowledge to a wide range of professions and agencies within the Buckinghamshire health system.

· Independently take students on placement for clinical teaching and supervision.

· Input to the paediatric videofluoroscopy clinic.

· Take responsibility for implementing service wide developments as appropriate, including data collection and clinical audit.
