Hays are working with a organisation in the Exeter area who are seeking a Assistant Accountant to join their growing finance team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside an experienced Financial and Management Accountant and our CFO in a dynamic, forward-thinking environment.As a scale-up company on a fast track, you'll gain exposure to a fast-paced environment and have the chance to take on more responsibility as we grow.
Key ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Financial and Management Accountant, you will be responsible for:
- Daily posting of payments/receipts and reconciliation of cash/bank accounts
- Producing, recording, and uploading sales invoices
- Reconciling debtor accounts and managing the sales ledger, including debt chasing via phone/email
- Inputting purchase invoices and ensuring VAT compliance
- Assisting with payment runs and supplier payments
- Supporting month-end processes, including journals and reconciliations for management accounts
- Processing new jobs/client accounts and maintaining the internal project database
- Preparing cost updates for client projects
- Assisting with general finance administration and reporting
- Performing routine calculations and producing analyses as requested
- Collaborating with the wider team to maintain high-quality reporting

- Comfortable applying accounting skills in a practical setting
- Keen to learn and grow within a dynamic business
Essential/Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Ideally part-qualified accountant
- Knowledge of financial controls, policies, and procedures
- Experience with Sage (beneficial but not essential)
- Strong IT skills, ideally including Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent time management and ability to prioritise a changing workload
- A true team player with strong relationship-building skills
