With a proactive, fail-fast culture, this is a place where innovation is encouraged, and ownership is key. The team thrives on pace, collaboration, and continuous improvement, and they're currently scaling rapidly with a major hiring push across the business.

Your new role

As Senior Database Administrator, you'll play a pivotal role in the technology function, leading the design, optimisation, and scaling of the cloud-based data platform. You'll be responsible for both transactional and analytical workloads across Cloud SQL (MySQL) and BigQuery, ensuring performance, reliability, security, and cost-efficiency. This is a hands-on role where you'll manage high availability setups, performance tuning, disaster recovery planning, automation, and observability. You'll also mentor engineers, maintain documentation, and manage third-party relationships.

What you'll need to succeed

To thrive in this role, you'll need:

  • Strong experience with Cloud SQL (MySQL) and BigQuery, including indexing, query plans, and schema design.
  • Hands-on production experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Proficiency in Terraform, Git, Bash, and other scripting/IaC tools.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools like Cloud Monitoring or New Relic.
  • Solid understanding of database security, IAM, encryption, and audit logging.
  • Proven operational experience with high availability, backups, disaster recovery, and change management.
  • Excellent documentation and stakeholder communication skills.

Bonus points for experience with Couchbase, Redis, Kubernetes, Airbyte, Laravel, and Agile methodologies. GCP certifications (Data Engineer or Cloud Architect) are also desirable.

What you'll get in return

  • Salary: £65,000-£75,000 depending on experience
  • Company equity - own a piece of the business
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • An extra day off for your birthday
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Access to Perks at Work benefit platform
  • Clear opportunities for career development and progression
