As Principal Pharmacist for Medicine and Renal you will lead, manage, and develop the service to ensure high-quality patient care and safe, cost-effective use of medicines across the specialities.
Your enthusiasm for Service Development and innovation will be fundamental in the improvement of patient flow and optimised service delivery. Engagement with the digital agenda will ensure the smooth running and future proofing of clinical pharmacy.
Your strong leadership and management skills will contribute to the efficient running of an established team of senior pharmacists. Refined communication and negotiation skills will aid you in fostering effective working relationships with key stakeholders, as well as motivating staff to strive for the highest possible standard of care.
Whilst experience in one or more of the specialities would be advantageous, the ability to lead, train and supervise staff with conviction and confidence will be vital.
As the Principal Clinical Pharmacist for Medicine and Renal, you will:
• Provide effective leadership and management with responsibility for the efficient delivery and further development of Clinical Pharmacy Services to the specialities of Medicine and Renal.
• Line manage an established team of Senior pharmacists for the specialities of the post.
• Provide professional advice and leadership on Clinical Pharmacy Practice to the specialities you are responsible for.
• Ensure that clinical pharmacy is in compliance with Medicines Legislation, the Code of Ethics of the General Pharmaceutical Council and Trust policies and procedure.
• Identify and action drug savings for the specialities you manage and ensure that financial intelligence is provided on a regular basis.
• Ensure that medicine related governance issues are raised and addressed for the specialities.
• Teach and supervise pharmacists, technicians, students and other healthcare professionals.

• Responsible for leading the delivery, management and development of the Clinical Pharmacy Service to high standards of efficiency and effectiveness for the specialities
• Monitor activity, plan and co-ordinate changes necessary for the further development of Clinical Pharmacy services. Identify and negotiate for the resources needed to effect the change.
• Lead on recording, reporting and monitoring Clinical Pharmacy interventions for the specialities.
• Responsible for Clinical Governance and incident monitoring, using Radar, within Clinical Pharmacy Services for your specialities and take action to minimise risks.
• In conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist Pharmacoeconomics monitor medicines usage and expenditure against BNSSG Formulary and commissioning guidance to provide recommendations in order to contain costs
• Provide a high-level Clinical Pharmacy service to the wards and clinical areas promoting safe, rational and cost-effective use of medicines in line with Trust policies.
• Record all major interventions made.
• Clinically screen prescriptions to ensure the safe, efficient, evidence-based and rational use of medicines in line with the Trust Formulary and departmental policies so that risks to patients are minimised.
• Attendance and provision of pharmaceutical expertise to multidisciplinary Trust or interface working groups considering protocols, policies and guidelines including drugs and therapeutics committee (DTC) and the medicines governance group (MGG).
• Actively involved in ward and departmental duties to ensure that effective commitment to these duties is maintained.
• Monitor performance and undertake audits against local and national standards to ensure that service quality is constantly reviewed, and actions taken to achieve improvements.
• Responsible for the training, mentoring and assessment of Pharmacists and Clinical Technicians to ensure they reach the required standards of practice in Clinical pharmacy in conjunction with the Training and Education Pharmacist
