Job Title: Senior Safety Case Engineer
Location: Rosyth
A leading nuclear services and engineering company is seeking a Senior Safety Case Engineer to join their team at Rosyth. The role is central to maintaining and developing nuclear safety justifications for ongoing operations and projects, ensuring full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Role Purpose:
The Senior Safety Case Engineer will develop, maintain, and manage safety case documentation and Safety Management Arrangements, providing expert nuclear safety support across design, operations, and maintenance. The post-holder will interface with regulators, safety committees, and key stakeholders, supporting the delivery of safe and compliant nuclear operations.
Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with project teams, health physics, design, operations, and maintenance to plan and prepare nuclear safety justifications.

Identify and categorise work affecting nuclear safety in line with internal safety management arrangements.

Develop, plan, and manage safety justification strategies, including key hold points and permissioning plans.

Conduct hazard assessments (HAZOPS, FMEA, SWIFT, Walkdowns, Desktop Studies) and produce safety case documentation.

Develop and specify Safety Functional Requirements (SFRs) and support substantiation of Structures, Systems, and Components (SSCs).

Provide radiological assessments and support probabilistic safety assessments (PSA) including fault tree analysis.

Support ALARP and Best Practicable Means (BPM) substantiations for safety cases.

Formulate and document Operating Rules, Limits, Conditions, maintenance, and training requirements.

Review, verify, and audit safety documentation to ensure regulatory compliance.

Oversee external organisations preparing safety case documentation on behalf of the company.

Monitor and report progress through approval processes and implement design and safety principles into projects.

Incorporate advice from regulators and committees into safety justifications and management arrangements.

Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:

Degree in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline

NIC or equivalent certification

Proven experience in production and management of safety cases, ideally in nuclear decommissioning

Strong understanding of risk assessment, reliability assessment, fault tree analysis, HAZOP, FMEA, human reliability analysis, and radiological consequence assessment

Knowledge of QA processes

Experience working in a Licensee organisation

Experience applying a proportionate design mindset to meet safety requirements
