Estates Surveyor – Corporate Property & Assets, Stoke-on-Trent City Council

Are you looking to make a real difference in the places where people live, work and thrive? Could you use your property and surveying expertise to help shape communities and deliver real social value?

Here at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, we’re looking for two Estates Surveyor to join our Corporate Property & Assets team. You’ll be working as part of a small, dedicated team looking after a diverse property portfolio across the city, including both operational and investment properties with a combined value of £500m+.

Whether it’s ensuring our estate is fit for future generations, supporting regeneration schemes, optimising community assets or generating capital receipts from surplus assets, you’ll play an important role in improving lives through better places.

Who we are

We are the Corporate Property & Assets function at Stoke-on-Trent City Council. Estates Surveyors are a vital part of our Estates team, working alongside our Property Strategy, Property Information and Enterprise Centres teams.

We look after the council’s operational property portfolio including civic centre, offices, depots, libraries, leisure centres, children’s centres, schools, parks, etc. Plus, there’s a commercial investment portfolio to manage, comprising grade A offices, trade parks, industrial estates, retail parades and land. There are also community assets and heritage buildings to look after.

You can find out more around the team you'll be joining on our personalised webpage here: Housing, Regeneration and Operations – Recruitment

What you’ll do

As you’d expect for a unitary authority with a diverse portfolio, the workload is incredibly varied.

You can expect to:

· Acquire, manage and dispose of property to support the council’s operational activities
· Contribute to the management of the council’s commercial investment estate, undertaking lettings, rent reviews, lease renewals and growing rental income
· Provide asset management, landlord and tenant and property advice
· Dispose of property assets as part of the council’s capital receipts programme
· Support regeneration and major projects to deliver positive local outcomes
· Liaise with key stakeholders, tenants and community groups

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is proactive, pragmatic and adaptable. You might be in a similar role elsewhere or you might be looking to step up into an Estates Surveyor role for the first time. Either way, we’d love to hear from you if you meet the following criteria:

· MRICS-qualified surveyor (you don’t need to be a registered valuer)
· Experience of managing a multi-site portfolio across varying asset types
· Sound knowledge of property law, landlord and tenant, asset management
· Good negotiation skills and able to communicate clearly and effectively

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Stoke-on-Trent City Council values the diversity of its community and aims to have a workforce that reflects this – we therefore encourage applications from all sections of our community. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees – a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed together.
