Summary
A nurturing and inclusive school is looking for a dedicated Autism Teaching Assistant to join their team in a long-term role supporting pupils across the school day. This is a meaningful opportunity to work 1:1 and in small groups with children with autism, helping them feel safe, understood and ready to learn. For the right person, this role may lead to a permanent position.
The Role
As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you'll:
- Support children with autism in both structured lessons and more flexible, individualised settings
- Help pupils communicate their needs, manage transitions and build confidence in social situations
- Assist with emotional regulation, including the use of calm spaces, sensory breaks and clear routines
- Use visual supports, communication tools and consistent strategies to promote independence
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and therapists to implement EHCPs and deliver tailored learning
- Be a trusted adult who offers empathy, structure and encouragement throughout the school day
Your presence will play a vital role in helping each child navigate challenges and celebrate successes-however small they may seem.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring warmth, resilience and a passion for inclusive education. You should have:
- A relevant qualification in Teaching Assistance, Health and Social Care, Social Work or a related field
- Experience supporting children or adults with autism or additional needs
- A calm, patient approach and a strong understanding of how to support emotional regulation
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with staff, families and outside professionals
- A genuine belief in every child's potential and the creativity to help them flourish in their own way
The School
This setting champions individuality, kindness and pupil-centred support. Staff work closely together to create tailored learning experiences, and children benefit from small group teaching, therapeutic strategies and a strong sense of belonging. The school celebrates every step forward and sees potential in every pupil.

As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
