Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping them thrive in education?
West Herts College Group is seeking a Group Youth Engagement and Diversion Officer to play a vital role in shaping the student experience.
As Group Youth Engagement and Diversion Officer, you will work closely with our 16–18-year-old students to ensure they feel safe, supported, and engaged throughout their time at college. You’ll be a key figure in promoting positive behaviour, building trust, and helping students—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds—stay on track and believe in their potential.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the Group Head of Youth Engagement and Diversion in upholding behaviour expectations.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage open dialogue.
• Inspire and motivate young people to remain engaged in education and develop resilience.
• Assist in managing and de-escalating student incidents.
• Liaise with external agencies including the police and local authorities.
• Provide advice, guidance, and support to students on a range of issues.
• Monitor and support vulnerable students at risk of disengagement.
• Contribute to safeguarding efforts in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.
What We’re Looking For
• A passionate individual with experience working with young people.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
• Knowledge of safeguarding practices and experience working with external agencies.
• A commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Why Join Us?
• Be part of a supportive and forward-thinking team.
• Make a real difference in the lives of young people.
• Access to professional development and training.
• Work across vibrant campuses with a diverse student population.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 23rd November 2025 with interviews taking place on Wednesday 3rd December 2025.
You’ll have the full support of a dynamic team and opportunities to bring your ideas to the role. Training and development are at the heart of everything we do so you’ll be encouraged to upskill.
We have a free on site gym and you can access a wide range of discounts and benefits including a cycle to work scheme, free on-site parking, pension, generous holiday scheme, time off at Christmas and early finishes on a Friday.
If you have any questions or queries please contact a member of the Human Resources team who will be happy to help. WHC Group is positive about disabled people. If you need help applying for a role please contact us.
