Key results from the job holder Practice at an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability that is within national guidelines, Trust policies and NMC Codes of Conduct. To independently receive and make referrals and lead the management of own caseload for dermatology patient treatment, diagnosis and follow up across health care settings. To utilise advanced clinical reasoning skills and evidence-based knowledge in the management of patients with complex presentations and to be clinically competent to utilise skills and knowledge in a variety of clinical settings. To make independent clinical decisions and initiate investigations, care/treatment, and technological intervention within an agreed framework. To direct and use the results of specialist investigations to assist formulation of diagnosis and plan patient management from a range of interventions. To oversee and supervise others in delivery of nurse led clinics applicable to the post and specialty. Develop and conduct skilled intervention within a skin disease caseload, addressing issues such as skin assessment, treatment and care, co-morbidities, education within an agreed framework. To maintain up to date, client records in accordance with service policy and to contribute to maintaining minimum dataset. To monitor, evaluate and review dermatology nursing practice and to modify approaches to clinicalcare as necessary. To take a leadership role in the development of clinical expertise in dermatology nursing enablingnurses to develop advanced assessment, decision-making and prescribing skills. To assist in developing nurse-led dermatology care in collaboration with medical andmultidisciplinary colleagues. To be an authoritative expert assessor/advisor on the management, psychological /spiritual/ social/practical and ethical needs of dermatology patients and to work in partnership with a range ofhealth professionals to improve skills in these areas. To work in close collaboration with dermatology lead consultant colleagues locally, nationally, and internationally. To work in collaboration with clinical teams/general management, to ensure there is a definepathway of care for general dermatology patients, facilitating timely care and treatment of patients. To utilise expert re-assessment to ensure that the management of planned interventions with otherMDT members is maintained via the development of a systematic process of follow-up patients acrossthe Trust and wider health care system. Engage with appropriate agencies as a nursing leader in the development of innovative nursingpractice and initiatives. Enhance dermatology as a nursing specialty within the Trust. Develop this pioneering role to strengthen nursing leadership. Share knowledge and expertise, acting as an expert resource to others within and outside theorganisation. Understand national and international standards and advise on shaping of services to meet local need. Set local standards promoting best practice, utilising leadership and change management skills. Act as a role model and advisor for staff within the Trust and the wider arena as appropriate i.e. primary care/other Trusts/national meetings Planning and Organisational Duties To lead in the implementation of dermatology nursing strategy across the Trust incorporating national and international standards into local practice. To inform and influence local management teams to ensure that the service responds to relevantdermatology national initiatives and directives (e.g. NICE, IOG, Peer Review). To work in partnership with the team and other areas in the Trust on the strategic and operationalplanning of the dermatology service and to be responsible for the developments of nursing practice. To create, develop and implement guidelines and protocols of care relevant to medical dermatologyin partnership with local/national /international agencies. To contribute to and influence the national dermatology policy agenda To provide expert input to the Trusts quality strategy by expressing the needs of the patient via a whole system approach rather than a unilateral professional view. To develop innovative models of dermatology service delivery, challenging organisational andprofessional boundaries. To develop innovations between the Trust and other agencies to ensure equity and access to thedermatology service. To initiate and respond to dermatology user feedback by ongoing evaluation and identification ofemerging trends, leading service development and redesign. To lead and interpret clinical policy change as it relates to dermatology and provide expert recommendations to managers, the Trust, local and national policy working parties To be responsible for the maintenance of accurate written records. To identify appropriate outcome measures and service impact measures, which evaluate accuratelypatient response and service development needs. Responsibility for Human Resources With service matron / DDON /DON, participate in regular skill mix reviews ensuring the established figures meet the needs of the dermatology service. To participate in workforce planning to meet service development and policy change. To appraise the nurse practitioners / clinical nurse specialists in dermatology and support theirprofessional development. To have a key responsibility for dermatology clinical teaching and staff development of peers, otherhealth professionals within the clinical area, across the Trust and outside the organisation. To develop formal links through partnerships with local universities and relevant professional bodies. To assist in the local and national recruitment of staff as a clinical expert panel member. To lead relevant departmental, nursing, Trust, and regional meetings. To provide clinical supervision to other staff and engage in own supervision.
