Working with our agencies and partners the Department for Transport supports the transport network that helps the UK’s businesses and gets people and goods travelling around the country.
You will be joining a varied, dynamic and fast paced organisation responsible for overseeing and shaping transport with a wide and varied agenda covering every mode of transport including aviation, maritime, roads and rail. DfT is a high profile organisation with a future focus ranging from decarbonisation and cross modal delivery to large infrastructure projects such as HS2.
We are looking to recruit an experienced professional for the role of HR Complex Case Manager. This is an important role where you will collaborate and build trusted relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues to ensure a positive employee experience and drive outcomes in support of DfT’s mission and strategic priorities.
You will support the HR Complex Casework and Strategic Service Delivery Lead to ensure that complex cases are managed effectively end-to-end, ensuring that managers are accessing the right sources of support, ensuring compliance with employment law and internal policy, along with robustly upholding the values and behaviours expected of Civil Servants.
Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:
- To build and maintain excellent relationships with customers, stakeholders and external suppliers, challenging constructively to deliver the best outcomes for people and the department.
- Advising and supporting Line Managers with regards to complex casework; monitoring and reviewing casework progress closely through the existing outsourced CSHR Casework provision, to sense-check pace, quality and consistency of advice, and identify emerging trends for further investigation or escalation.
- Using knowledge of employment law and exercising sound judgement aligned with the Civil Service Code, DfT values, departmental policy and business needs to intervene and facilitate resolution of the most sensitive, senior or complex cases; challenging upwards as necessary.
- Building departmental capability, confidence and corporate memory of line-managers, including investigating and decision managers, to ensure procedural compliance and drive a culture of robust, consistent and evidence-based decision-making to promote fairness and protect departmental interests.
- Ensure appropriate governance and confidentiality is in place so that responsibilities are understood, and that decision making is effective (this includes the appropriate and timely escalation of risks).
- Providing proactive and reactive briefings and advice to senior leaders when complex cases escalate, working proactively with them to effectively manage risk.
- Identifying lessons learned and casework trend insights to identify and risk-mitigate policy or procedural weaknesses.
- Provide direction and supervision to staff supporting Complex casework activities and work flexibly to support wider team activities
- Support ongoing continuous improvement activities related to complex casework.
- Working with HR teams to design and deliver bespoke training on policies and processes
