Neway International have a Job Opportunity for a Street Trading and Market Operations Officer to join our client based with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Role Overview
The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is seeking a proactive and dedicated Street Trading and Market Operations Officer (Grade H) to join the Housing and Regeneration team. This is a frontline role ensuring the smooth running of the borough’s vibrant street trading and market activities, while enforcing regulations, legislation, and by-laws to maintain safe, fair, and compliant trading environments.

️ Key Responsibilities
Manage, monitor, and control all street trading and market-related activities across the borough

Enforce council regulations, applicable legislation, and by-laws, including issuing warnings, FPNs, and preparing cases for legal proceedings where necessary

Act as the first point of contact for traders, the public, and community groups, resolving complaints and queries professionally

Issue daily licences to casual traders and carry out site visits/surveys for licence applications

Monitor trader compliance, including stall sizes, commodities, and attendance

Liaise with contractors to ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained market conditions

Inspect and monitor utilities (electrical/water) and ensure barriers/gates are managed in line with market times

Support community engagement, liaising with local organisations and trader associations to bring about positive changes

Contribute to policy initiatives and assist in the development of street trading and market services

✅ Candidate Requirements
Experience of dealing with traders and/or the public in a regulatory or enforcement setting

Strong communication and conflict resolution skills

Ability to identify problems and take effective action quickly

Competence in using computerised systems to maintain and evaluate service delivery

Strong customer focus with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

⏰ Assignment Details
Start Date: 24 November 2025

End Date: 19 April 2026

Hours: 35 per week

Shift Times: 08:00 – 16:00, Monday to Friday (with flexibility for evenings/weekends as required)

Pay Rates
PAYE: £22.44 per hour

Umbrella/Ltd: £29.29 per hour
