Are you ready to collaborate with experts across APHA to deliver high-impact risk assessments that protect animal health?
If so, we would love to hear from you!
APHA is a brilliant place to work where our people feel valued, have a voice and can be their authentic selves. We value difference and diversity, because it helps us be more innovative and make better decisions.
We are dedicated to being an inclusive employer, offering equitable opportunities for all individuals. Our goal is to build a diverse workforce, and we hope to attract applications from all backgrounds and underrepresented groups.
We are looking for a Reactive Risk Assessor to join a team of Higher Scientific Officers (HSOs), working collaboratively with other Risk Assessors and subject matter experts across the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA). This role is based within the APHA’s Epidemiology and Risk Policy Advice Team (EPIRISK).
You will be responsible for leading the delivery of animal health risk assessments, primarily to inform the work of the UK Office for Sanitary and Phytosanitary Trade Assurance (SPSTA). In addition, you may contribute to assessments that inform the work of UK policy teams and the International Disease Monitoring (IDM) Team, as needed.
Working as part of a team, you will be involved throughout the risk assessment process, from defining the risk question, through to the delivery and communication of the results, often working to tight deadlines.
With a focus on qualitative risk assessments, the post holder will:
- Support the Senior Risk Assessor and Senior Coordinator in producing rapid risk assessments to assess the risk of exotic animal disease introduction associated with trade in various commodities
- Advise customers, including policy makers and other senior stakeholders, on the outcomes from data analysis and risk assessments, presenting complex results with clarity
- Collaborate effectively with those providing information and data for risk assessments, including disease experts, veterinary advisers, policymakers and other stakeholders, building and maintaining effective working networks
- Working in partnership with Defra and Devolved Administration policy makers, as well as with teams across the APHA
