Are you a highly empathetic and resilient Teaching Assistant passionate about inclusion in the primary classroom?

Do you possess specialised skills in 1:1 or small group intervention for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

Are you seeking flexible and rewarding supply opportunities in primary schools across Leeds, supported by the UK's leading education agency?

Randstad Education is urgently seeking experienced and dedicated Primary SEN Teaching Assistants to support our partner schools across the Leeds area. These roles are critical in providing immediate, high-quality assistance to pupils who require tailored support to access the curriculum and manage their learning environment effectively.

Your work will be centred on implementing individualised strategies and fostering a supportive atmosphere for pupils across all primary Key Stages (EYFS to KS2).

Key Responsibilities
  • Targeted 1:1 and Small Group Support: Provide dedicated support to pupils with various SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

  • IEP Implementation: Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver interventions and activities derived from the pupil's Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or support plans.

  • Behaviour and Emotional Support: Utilise training and experience to implement positive behaviour support strategies, proactively addressing challenging behaviours and supporting the pupil's emotional well-being.

  • Resource Adaptation: Assist in modifying and preparing learning materials (visual aids, differentiated worksheets) to ensure they are accessible and engaging for pupils with specific needs.

  • Progress Tracking: Accurately monitor and record pupil progress, providing clear, concise feedback to the teaching staff.

  • Nurturing Environment: Promote independence, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging for the pupil within the classroom and school community.

Essential Candidate Requirements
  • Experience: Proven, direct experience supporting primary-aged children with complex or moderate SEN.

  • Qualifications (Highly Desirable): A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2/3) or specialised training in areas such as Autism, Makaton, PECS, Team Teach, or specific Phonics programmes (e.g., Read Write Inc. intervention).

  • Safeguarding: A non-negotiable commitment to safeguarding and child protection.

  • DBS: A current Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply immediately through Randstad.

  • Qualities: High levels of patience, adaptability, empathy, and resilience are essential.
