The Haematology Team at the Royal Free Hospital site is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Band 5 Registered Nurse with a passion to make a difference.
The potholder will play a key role in the delivery of ambulatory patient care within the Haematology Day Unit situated on the Planned Investigation Treatment Unit (PITU) at the Royal Free Hospital site.
The role will mainly focus on providing a high standard care to all our patients. To assist in the continuing professional development and performance of learners and junior staff in the clinical area.
The post holder will be accountable for their nursing practice, adhere to the policies and protocols of the Trust and the NMC.
The post holder will have a responsibility for their own personal and professional development.
The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multidisciplinary team and service users related to the speciality.
The postholder will:
• be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff.
• support the Junior Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients.
• in the absence of the Junior Sister, be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Haematology Day Unit.
• in the absence of the Junior Sister, manage the Band 4 Associate Practitioner and assign delegated tasks and responsibility as appropriate.
• ensure a positive focussed service incorporating patients’ feedback to maintain and improve patient care.
• act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.

As a member of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will contribute to the delivery of patients’ individual care.
The post holder will demonstrate a level of skill and understanding which enables them to undertake all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff, and in accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines and policies.
The post holder will undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which they have been trained and assessed as competent.
The role involves assisting patients seen in the department, measuring vital signs, obtaining blood samples and other specimens as necessary.
Using their own initiative the post-holder will keep material resources of the department well stocked and in good order and help to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
There is the opportunity to develop within the role and undertake further training and development.
The post holder will act as a role model for colleagues.
