Fixed Term Contract Ending 30th September 2026.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join our nationally recognised multidisciplinary team, providing specialist assessment and intervention for children and young people with complex motor disorders.
This post offers an exciting opportunity to work with children with dystonia, spasticity, or mixed tone, including those being considered for neurosurgical interventions such as deep brain stimulation or intrathecal baclofen therapy.
You will work closely with our experienced MDT, contributing to the holistic management of children across inpatient and outpatient settings. The role is ideal for an occupational therapist looking to deepen expertise in paediatric neurodisability within a collaborative, supportive, and forward-thinking environment or a therapist wanting to gain experience at Band 7 level.

You will provide detailed, specialist assessments to identifying the impact of motor disorders across self-care, productivity and leisure domains, including any adverse impact on care burden.

Your assessments will inform MDT discussions and decision-making around complex medical and surgical interventions.

You will support children, young people and their families in collaborative goal setting to help inform clinical decision making and evaluation of outcomes.

You will deliver expert advice and recommendations to families and professionals across health, education, and social care, supporting joined-up, child-centred planning.

Working closely with medical, therapy, and nursing colleagues, you will contribute to case discussions, family education, and discharge planning. You will also supervise junior staff and students, participate in service development and quality improvement, and engage in departmental audit, research, and CPD to support ongoing service excellence.

You will be based within the Complex Motor Disorders service at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. As part of this established and supportive MDT, you will take part in shared learning, decision-making, and service evaluation, contributing to clinical excellence recognised nationally.
You will also be part of our well established paediatric occupational therapy team which will also provide professional support and supervision, with opportunities for ongoing development through in-service training, reflective practice, and participation in wider Trust learning programmes.
Working with us means joining a compassionate, inclusive, and forward-thinking team, committed to improving outcomes and experiences for children and young people with complex neurological needs.

Comprehensive assessment and evaluation of children and young people with complex movement disorders.

Contribute to clinical decision making with regards to potential neuro-surgery such as Deep Brain Stimulation or Intrathecal Baclofen.

Support children, young people and families to set realistic and appropriate goals for intervention or help identify when neurosurgery is not currently indicated.

Give advice regarding positioning and equipment, upper limb management and splinting based on the available evidence and clinical experience.

Provide supervision and or support for less experienced or less qualified members of the OT or CMDS team as required.

Contribute to detailed MDT assessment reports to help advise children, young people, families and community colleagues on how best to help and support children on our caseload.

Contribute to team audit and or research with guidance and support.

Please see attached job description for full details.
