1. Communication and Relationships Liaison with Key Stakeholders: Act as a technical specialist, providing expert advice on server-related matters to key decision-makers, senior management, and departmental heads. Communicate complex technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Collaborative Working: Work closely with the IT Infrastructure Manager, Server Specialist, clinicians, and other departments to align server infrastructure with Trust requirements. Maintain strong relationships with third-party vendors to ensure SLAs are met. Technical Reporting: Produce detailed reports on server environment metrics, capacity planning, and incident analysis to support senior management decision-making. 2. Technical Server Management Server Infrastructure Management: Design, configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot the Trusts server infrastructure, including on-premise servers, virtual environments, storage systems, and backups. System Monitoring and Maintenance: Implement monitoring tools and perform regular preventative maintenance to ensure optimal performance. Hardware Maintenance: Conduct physical maintenance such as drive replacements, memory upgrades, and component swaps. Backup and Disaster Recovery: Manage backup and recovery procedures, regularly testing plans to ensure data integrity and service continuity. Security and Patching: Enforce virus protection and patching protocols, following security best practices. Capacity Planning: Review and optimize server capacity to meet future demands and support growth. 3. Analytical and Judgement Skills Technical Problem Solving: Act as escalation point for complex issues, using analytical skills to interpret logs and performance data. Risk Assessment: Identify and mitigate risks including security vulnerabilities and hardware failures. Decision-Making: Make informed decisions on upgrades and expansions, balancing technical needs with financial constraints. 4. Planning and Organisation Project Management: Lead or support server infrastructure projects, ensuring timely and aligned delivery. Change Management: Oversee server changes through Trusts change control processes, minimizing service disruption. Preventative Maintenance: Plan and execute maintenance schedules to ensure system reliability and security. 5. Physical and Financial Resources Physical Server Maintenance: Manage installation and configuration of server hardware in data centres. Resource Allocation: Allocate server resources efficiently and cost-effectively. Procurement: Collaborate with suppliers and procurement teams to source best-value hardware/software. Budget Management: Monitor budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities. 6. Service Development and Implementation Service Improvement: Continuously assess infrastructure for enhancements in performance and reliability. Business Requirements Translation: Convert clinical and administrative needs into technical deliverables. System Enhancements: Lead performance tuning and feature upgrades, ensuring documentation and change control compliance. Server Documentation: Maintain up-to-date technical documentation for all server systems. 7. On-Call Support Out-of-Hours Cover: Participate in on-call rota to support critical systems outside business hours. Incident Resolution: Serve as primary contact during incidents, coordinating resolution and escalation as needed.
