Our Client is seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Engineer or their Capital Programmes Division with proven construction experience to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team.
The service delivers a wide range of capital projects and programmes across the city — with an annual value of approximately £200 million — supporting the development, maintenance, and improvement of the city’s infrastructure and public assets.
Projects range from school maintenance and refurbishments to heritage building restoration, art gallery enhancements, public realm improvements, event infrastructure, and specialist M&E commissions, including the Manchester Christmas Markets.
As an Electrical Engineer, you’ll contribute to this diverse portfolio of works from feasibility through to design, contract management, and project delivery, ensuring all projects meet the highest engineering and compliance standards. You must have degree in Electrical Engineering (CEng/IEng accredited) or an HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering working towards professional registration for this role, have extensive experience of project management and come from a construction background.

Responsibilities:

Deliver electrical engineering services across multiple construction projects, ensuring compliance with design standards, budgets, and timescales.

Undertake design work, calculations, feasibility studies, and specifications for new installations and refurbishments.

Inspect, test, and report on electrical systems, identifying defects and recommending corrective actions.

Prepare and review documentation in line with CDM Regulations, PSPC, and JCT Contract requirements.

Manage engineering contracts from inception to completion, including financial and technical performance.

Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, contractors, and consultants to ensure successful project outcomes.

Support sustainable design practices and energy-efficient solutions across the capital programme.

Qualification and Essential Experience:

A degree in Electrical Engineering (CEng/IEng accredited) or an HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering working towards professional registration.

Demonstrable experience in electrical design and project management within the construction sector.

Proven ability to prepare specifications, reports, and technical documentation to a professional standard.

Sound understanding of building regulations, planning legislation, CDM Regulations, and public sector procurement.

Experience with CAD and relevant design software (e.g., HEVACOMP) is desirable.

Core Competencies:

Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills; able to influence and negotiate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Analytical Thinking: Ability to develop detailed business cases and technical analyses that support strategic decisions.

Planning and Organisation: Strong judgement under pressure; able to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Project & Contract Management: Skilled in identifying, assessing, and managing project risks.

Problem Solving: Creative and lateral thinker, able to deliver practical, sustainable engineering solutions.

ICT Proficiency: Confident in using digital tools to analyse data and communicate complex information clearly.
