Crynodeb

Tower Hamlets Shared Lives is an alternative to traditional types of care and support available to adults with a learning disability.
In Shared Lives, a person lives, stays, or spends some time with a Shared Lives Carer within the local community. The person is supported to maximise their potential and maintain their sense of independence, using the Shared Lives Carer’s home as a base.

We offer support according to individual needs. It is delivered in three ways:

• Day support - A person can spend a day/s or a few hours a week with one of our Carers. Paid in line with the London Living Wage for each person you support.

• Respite - A person can stay overnight or for a short time with one of our Carers. Earn between £79 and £102 per night for each person you support.

• Long term placement - A person can live on a long-term basis with one of our Carers, becoming a part of their family and/or personal network. You will receive a weekly income of between £600 and £800 for each person you support. This includes care fees, rent payment and utilities contribution.

You do not need direct experience in a 'caring' role - Shared Lives Carers are ordinary people from the local community (although being Carers makes them extraordinary!). Shared Lives Carers are self-employed and are paid for the support they provide. All Carers go through a thorough assessment process to ensure they are suitable for the role, and they can offer a safe and appropriate environment for caring.

Being a Shared Lives Carer is an extremely rewarding role, and we are always looking for new carers to join. It can be your full-time role or can work flexibly on top of existing work or caring commitments — with full training and support every step of the way.

Here’s what to expect:
• Application form – a simple way for you to tell us a little about yourself.
• Checks – including references, a DBS (criminal record check), a health check, and a health and safety check to make sure everything is safe and secure.
• Home visits – one of our friendly team will come and chat with you about your experience, your home, and how Shared Lives could work for you.
• Approval panel – once everything is complete, your assessment will be shared with an independent panel who will confirm your approval as a Shared Lives Carer.

If you are interested in becoming a Shared Lives Carer, please click 'Apply for this job' and you will be taken through to our webpage. Please complete the very brief enquiry form and we will get back to you on next steps as soon as possible.
