The Safeguarding Adult Nurse will:

Work as part of the Trust Safeguarding Team to promote the Adult Safeguarding agenda, the Think Family approach and a culture of professional curiosity Trust wide.

Deliver effective compassionate safeguarding advice, support and supervision under the direction of the Lead Nurse and attend any Multi-Agency meetings as required.



Ensure that the Trust meets its statutory obligations to safeguard and promote the welfare of all adults, children and young people who access Walsall Healthcare Trust services, in conjunction with the wider Safeguarding Team

Support the Adult Safeguarding Team in the development and delivery of quality assurance and innovative practice. This may include deputising for the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Adults within forums and meetings as deemed appropriate.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300. It provides inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010, and ongoing upgrades ensure the Trust now has state-of-the-art facilities, including a Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit. A new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, opened in March 2023, has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity, providing almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space

1. Delivering safe and effective safeguarding practice.

· Ensure a high standard of safe clinical care and record keeping in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council, national legislation, and trust standards.

· Have a working knowledge of factors that may contribute to abuse and neglect, including domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental health concerns, sexual abuse, learning disability, adverse childhood experiences, exploitation, self-neglect and hoarding.

2. To enhance the patient’s experience

· To effectively, holistically assess individuals safeguarding needs, supporting staff in planning actions to elicit any required support and/or referrals.

3. To ensure effective contribution to the delivery of the organisation’s objectives

Contribute to the development of an organisational culture that supports continuous learning and development, evidence-based practice and succession planning.
