Job Title: Senor Policy Planner

Ref: Brentwood RQ1627711

Pay rate: £38.89 per hour PAYE

Role length: Anticipated 12 months

Working arrangements: Hybrid role - some site visits – 2 days in the office

Additional requirement: Driving Licence



The role:

We are seeking a Senor Policy Planner to provide specialist support across a range of complex and high-priority strategic planning projects.

The role requires a high level of autonomy, technical expertise, and coordination across internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure timely delivery and effective engagement.



Key responsibilities:

Lead the council’s involvement in a specific DCO Examination in Public, represent the Council at hearing sessions, prepare formal written submissions for appointed inspectors and provide regular updates to senior officers and elected members
Coordinate the council’s response to a specific consented DCO scheme, review and provide feedback on key documents, including those linked to the S106 agreement, report progress and issues to senior officers and members
Oversee policy development for Gypsy and Traveller policy matters and ensure alignment with legal and planning frameworks and provide input into ongoing planning applications involving Gypsy and Traveller communities
Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and Section 106 (S106) Matters: support the coordination of governance arrangements for the allocation and spending of developer contributions and assist in the development and adoption of an Infrastructure Investment Plan



What the client is looking for:

Strong understanding of planning policy and infrastructure planning, particularly in relation to DCO processes
Experience in representing local authorities at public examinations or hearings
Knowledge of Gypsy and Traveller planning policy and associated legal frameworks
Familiarity with CIL and S106 processes, including governance and investment planning
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders
