Description
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Environmental Health Officer (Private Sector Housing Reactive) to join our team. This integral role focuses on ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of residents in private sector housing. The successful candidate will work proactively to address housing conditions that adversely affect public health and safety, carrying out investigations and inspections in response to complaints and referrals. This position requires a strong understanding of environmental health legislation and housing standards, along with the ability to effectively communicate findings and work collaboratively with property owners, tenants, and other stakeholders. The Environmental Health Officer will play a crucial role in implementing housing regulations, providing guidance to ensure compliance and addressing issues such as disrepair, overcrowding, and poor sanitation. Additionally, the role involves liaising with other departments and agencies to ensure a comprehensive approach to improving housing conditions. Responsibilities
Conduct inspections and investigations of private sector housing in response to complaints and referrals.
Assess housing conditions and identify hazards that may pose a risk to health and safety.
Advise landlords and tenants on their rights and responsibilities regarding housing standards.
Implement enforcement actions where necessary to ensure compliance with housing regulations.
Compile detailed reports on findings and recommendations for action.
Collaborate with other departments and external agencies to address housing issues effectively.
Provide guidance and support to stakeholders on best practices in maintaining safe and healthy housing environments.
Requirements
A degree in Environmental Health or a related field with relevant professional qualifications.
Demonstrated experience in housing inspections and investigations within the environmental health sector.
In-depth knowledge of environmental health legislation, particularly regarding housing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex situations.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective stakeholder engagement.
Ability to work independently and manage a caseload efficiently.
Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated on housing regulations.
