Trainee Design and Certification Engineer

Our client is seeking a motivated Trainee Design and Certification Engineer to join their engineering team. This entry-level position is ideal for recent postgraduate students looking to begin their career in aerospace engineering and certification. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Head of Airworthiness and Senior Design Engineers to support aircraft interior modification projects encompassing both design and certification aspects.

Key Responsibilities

Certification and Compliance:

- Assist in compiling modification and repair packages in accordance with UK CAA Part 21 Subpart J requirements.

- Classify changes to type design and prepare associated technical documentation.

- Support the creation of compliance demonstration reports and accomplishment instructions.

- Learn to interpret and apply aviation regulations, ensuring all modifications meet required airworthiness standards.

Design and Documentation:

- Create and modify technical drawings using SolidWorks CAD software.

- Develop 3D models and produce 2D engineering drawings in line with aerospace industry standards.

- Maintain and review design documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Aircraft Survey Activities:

- Participate in aircraft surveys worldwide, including 3D scanning and technical assessments of cabin interiors.

- Document findings through detailed reports, photographs, and accurate measurements.

- Identify areas requiring modification and contribute to technical recommendations.

Required Qualifications:

- Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline (recent graduates encouraged to apply).

- Strong academic performance and a keen interest in aircraft design and certification.

- Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.

- Understanding of engineering principles, materials science, and structural analysis is advantageous.

Professional Competencies:

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in technical work.

- Good written and verbal communication skills for preparing technical reports and collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a regulated environment.

Travel Requirements:

- Willingness and ability to travel internationally, sometimes at short notice.

- Valid passport required.

Desirable Experience:

- University projects or placement experience relevant to aircraft design, modification, or certification.

- Knowledge of UK CAA Part 21 regulations or other CAD packages such as CATIA.
