Responsibility for leadership/ operational management of staff (including numbers) such as recruitment, appraisal, career development. Responsibility for training and development. 1.1. Manage stroke emergencies and take lead role if necessary. 1.2. Takes appropriate action to manage emergency, summoning appropriate assistance where necessary. 1.3. Identify unsafe practice and respond appropriately to ensure a safe outcome. 1.4. Help in investigating clinical incidents, identifying key themes of complaints and put appropriate action plans in place within a reasonable time frame. 1.5. Manage own workload effectively, prioritising and using time management skills to ensure information is timely and accurate. 1.6. Participate in the education and development of other staff members. 1.7. Demonstrate and maintain up to date knowledge and skill in stroke nursing management. 1.8. Attend and contribute to monthly local stroke governance meeting and in quarterly regional meetings. 1.9. Actively contribute in organizing and in the delivery of post graduate stroke courses such as the stroke transfer training and stroke development course 1.10. Take responsibility for personal development and education and the development of a Personal Development Plan. 1.11. Maintains own professional development and be actively involved in the development/appraisal of junior colleagues. Promotes the workplace as a learning environment for all. 1.12. Plan and help in facilitating the delivery of stroke simulation trainings for members of the stroke team including nurses, care assistants, doctors, and other members of the team. Information Resources Level of responsibility for paper based or electronic records and systems, responsibility for information systems bothy hardware and software plus the generation and creation of information such as statistical reports or formal minutes 1.1. Demonstrate the ability to use Information Technology to support practice. 1.2. Use ESR system appropriately and help support team leaders in ensuring all members of the stroke nursing team has good compliance to their mandatory training. 1.3. Use SSNAP data and analyse them appropriately to assess gaps and areas to improve within the service. 1.4. Keeps accurate and complete records consistent with legislation, professional guidelines, trust policies and procedures. Promoting and maintaining confidentiality sharing accurate and timely information in line with the information governance agenda. 1.5. Ensure documentation is completed in accordance with the NMC professional guidelines and trust policy. 1.6. Develops and records care plans that are appropriate to the patient based on their assessment of the patient. Research and Development Responsibility for informal or formal clinical or non-clinical R&D including audit 1.1. Participate in the ward/clinical area clinical audit programme. 1.2. Recognise the importance of the role of clinical audit in developing practice. 1.3. Identify, promote, and participate in stroke research trials as and when required. Acts to maintain personal safety, security, and that of others. 1.2. Support the full implementation of all trust policies in the delivery of safe clinical care. 1.3. Identifies potential and actual risks using the trust incident reporting system in line with trust policy and in line with their professional accountability. 1.4. Identifies patients at risk and raises concerns appropriately on issues of child protection and the protection of vulnerable adults. 1.5. Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. 1.6. Working within the limits of own competency to always ensure the delivery of high-quality care by self and others. 1.7. Act as a role model and assist in the development of junior staff and inspire more clinicians to join the service. 1.8. Always act in such a manner that promotes the positive image of the ward/clinical area and the Trust. 1.9. Promotes the standards of the nursing profession by actively supporting student nurses and developing/maintaining their own mentorship status. 1.10. Maintain ones own high professional standards and discuss opportunities to develop clinical practice with their line manager. 1.11. Acts upon strengths and weaknesses identified, applying reflective practice to demonstrate knowledge and skills in line with evidence-based practice and legislation. Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities.
