At the cutting-edge of modern British design, our client has a very strong brand and excellent image, reputation and online profile. They are primarily focused on supplying interior designers, developers, contractors, architects and discerning private clients with bespoke kitchens and cabinetry.
They are currently recruiting for graduate Joinery Designer to join their award-winning and vibrant team. The ideal candidate requires an excellent eye for inspirational design and a drive to explore new design styles and materials to use on new projects. Their designers are presentable, highly organised, clear communicators and have excellent interpersonal skills.
The design team is based between the company’s workshop in Buckinghamshire, near Amersham, and its showhome studio in Chiswick, West London. The close relationship between design and production is one of the company’s key strengths. The Junior Joinery Designer will typically spend three days per week in the Chiswick studio and two days at the workshop.
Are you the right person for the job?
• A Product Design degree or similar would be desirable. A recent graduate from a relevant design degree (Product Design, Furniture Design, Interior Architecture
• Alternatively, previous joinery, kitchen or furniture design experience or designers who have developed joinery and kitchen packages in an interior design role
• Previous sales and client-facing experience are desirable
• Experience with the following software packages is desirable: a 3D Design Software, Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Word, etc) and SketchUp
• Excellent planning, organisation, and communication skills
• A thorough approach and attention to detail
• Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
• Positive working attitude
• Passionate about design
• Willingness to learn and continually develop skills
What will your role look like?
• To produce concept visuals and/or design intent drawings for the client’s approval for luxury interiors
• To specify materials, arrange samples and compose finish palettes, often liaising with interior designers
• To work alongside a team of 5x sales designers to design and detail highly bespoke items, taking sole ownership of smaller projects through the concept design stage after they have been sold
• To develop the design brief and specification sheet for the technical design team
• To join client meetings, often involving clients’ builders and architects
• To communicate with suppliers such as worktop and metal fabricators to cost and detail specialist design elements
• To ensure deadlines are met and designs are produced efficiently
